With this new redesign, we hope to encourage participation, provide better resources and engage with members better. Take a look around and send us some feedback!

Looking ahead: 2012

Dear AAJA Texas members,

Last year was a great one for the Texas chapter -- we had a great Texas turnout to the 2011 national convention in Detroit, hosted a media access workshop as part of the AAJA conference, held our very first statewide reunion in Austin that brought together members from all over the state and happily welcomed new board members Ruth Liao, vice president, Asma Nahvi, secretary, and Lee Ann O'Neal, treasurer (formerly membership chair).

We're looking forward to an awesome new year. To kick things off, we've got Lunar New Year dim sum meetups for our members and their family & friends happening in January and February in Houston, Austin and Dallas. Check out the lineup here and don't forget to RSVP. We've also got great programming in the works, including another statewide reunion in Texas, a mentoring program for students and young professionals and other social and professional events throughout the year.

Don't forget to join or renew your AAJA membership for 2012 and mark Texas as your chapter. This year also brings the Unity convention -- which happens only once in four years, bringing together four  minority journalism groups in a convention packed with professional programming and networking opportunities in Las Vegas, Aug. 1-4.

Here's to a great 2012!

Iris Kuo

President, AAJA Texas Chapter
